Frank-CORN-Stein's Castle
Native Americans developed corn by
experimenting with a grass called Teosinte
(Tay-oh-SIN-tay). Corn, like many crops,
still depends on humans to survive.
Agricultural scientists continue to make
valuable contributions to developing crops.
They develop varieties that are resistant to
drought, work on environmentally safe pest
control, and help farmers and ranchers create
higher quality crops at less cost to consumers.
In this game, youth will be "scientists" learning about the origins of corn and
creating their own monsters. While applying basic scientific concepts of
genetics, they will understand the commonalities of traits among plants. They
will develop reading and sequencing skills while choosing corn
characteristics.
